Traditional music is above all an intergenerational message. These are hours and days spent with older musicians, recording, drawing from an extremely rich repertoire. It is a desire to preserve their songs and their works, but not only.

Almost all contemporary traditional groups are inspired by it, some perform music 1:1, slightly modifying the melodies heard. However, there are also those who introduce a particular style into their playing, through the instruments used or through changes in accents or phrasing. On Saturday evening (17.12), Spodek from the Institute of Culture in Podlaskie resonated with sharp, but traditional psychedelic music, thanks to the group Odpoczno.
Trance obereks, expressive polkas, ballads made for an interesting concert. You could commune with archaic sounds in such a modern sense. It gave the impression of being able to sink into wild, sometimes raw melodies.
Musicians, Marcin Lorenc (violin), Marek Kądziela (guitar), Piotr Gwadera (drums) and Joanna Szczęsnowicz (vocals, keyboards) have combined different musical universes: from traditional music, through jazz, improvised music, to to alternative rock and even experimental electronics. You could hear the dynamics of musical madness, with great potential. However, one had the impression that Joanna’s singing unfortunately did not follow the virtuosity of the musicians. His voice slowed down the rhythm, which caused a kind of crossing of the whole. There was no solid, strong, slightly dirty voice here.
The Rest concert was part of the EtnoNurty series. The Podlaski Institute of Culture presents bands inspired by traditional and folk melodies, but often combining them with contemporary, jazz or classical sounds. EtnoNurty’s concerts show that contemporary interpretations of traditional and folk music can go in different directions – take different tendencies, but always refer to the past.
