The 100 greatest footballers in history according to ‘FourFourTwo’

The magazine FourFourTwo has compiled a list of the 100 best footballers in the history of the discipline.

The top four spots in the ‘FourFourTwo’ ranking were taken by Leo Messi, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pele.

“History books will praise Messi, but their limitations will hurt him. In 20 years, young fans will read the story of a messianic figure whose genius stunned the world, broke a litany of records and ushered in an era of dominance… but only by watching the films will they understand what they missed.(…) The number of his goals is nothing compared to their beauty” – he said been written about the Argentine.

“In the meantime, experts, fans and writers will try to express his greatness with words and metaphors. They will all fail, just like the article you are reading now. The best we can do is listen to Pep Guardiola who said, ‘Don’t write about him, don’t try to describe him. Just look at him’” added.

Messi overtook Maradona, Ronaldo, Pelé, but also Zinedine Zidane, Johan Cruyff, George Best and Franz Beckenbauer. Brazilian Ronaldo completes the top ten.
