Selected by the votes of millions of users of the travel portal TripAdvisor. The list lacks Polish attractions, but let’s rest assured: Prague’s Charles Bridge and the Great Wall of China are not among the top attractions.
The online mecca for travelers around the world – TripAdvisor – recently announced the winners of this year’s Traveler’s Choice Awards. The competition jury is made up of travelers who share their experiences on this site and recommend the best restaurants, accommodation centers and, above all, places to visit.
TripAdvisor was recently ranked based on these ratings list the top-rated tourist attractions in the world. Among them there are places known even to the local population. But there are also some surprises in the ranking. Some of this is likely because a large portion of the portal’s more than 60 million users are Americans.
On the winners list – even this one limited to Europe – unfortunately there are no attractions from Poland. But let’s take comfort in knowing that Prague’s Charles Bridge and the Great Wall of China are not among the top fifteen:
25. Panama Canal, Panama
24. Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
23. Sydney Opera House, Australia
22. Mayan city of Chichén Itzá, Mexico
21. Wat Pho Temple, Bangkok, Thailand
20. National September 11 Museum and Memorial, New York, United States
19. Burj Khalifa skyscraper, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
18. Abraham Lincoln Mausoleum, Washington, United States
17. The Great Wall of China in Mutianyu, China

This is what the fifteen winners look like:

12. Resurrection Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Russia
11. Eiffel Tower, Paris, France

1. Angkor Wat Temple, Siem Reap, Cambodia
The Angkor Wat complex (i.e. the city temple) is considered the largest religious building not only in Cambodia, but in the world. The area of the entire temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu exceeds 2 square kilometers.
The temple was built in the years 1113-1150 AD by Suryavarman II in the capital of the Khmer Empire. Since the ruler also considered himself a god, after his death he was buried within the walls of his life’s work.
Currently, the Angkor Wat temple is a symbol of all Cambodia and is located among other on the flag this country. Of course, it is also the biggest tourist attraction in this increasingly visited country.
