The Queen of Sport Laurel Gala was held on Sunday, October 16 at the City Hotel in Bydgoszcz. The event is an opportunity to celebrate successes achieved in international arenas and at home. Each year, the best athletes in the region and the country are rewarded.

– This is another meeting with the stars of athletics in Bydgoszcz. This holiday is less sporty today, but such days are also necessary to motivate players to work hard. May we always be so successful that the elections will be as difficult as this year – says Krzysztof Wolsztyński, chairman of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Athletic Association.
The player of the year was Wojciech Nowicki, who won the European hammer throw title in August in Munich. In Eugene, during the world championship, the hammer mill gave way only to Paweł Fajdek.
– I’m happy that the last season was stable for me and good results, with two medals at the World Championships and at the European Championships. I am happy to have been honored and to have received the Queen’s Laurel Sport – it is also the success and the work of my whole team, with whom I cooperate on a daily basis – said the current Olympic champion.
The Hammerer is not going to rest on its laurels.
– The last time was very pleasant for me, because I spent it at home with my family. In the near future, I want to go through the preparatory period well, and then I will try to achieve the best results and throw as far as possible – Nowicki promises.
Adrianna Sułek was voted player of the year.
– This season has been a roller coaster for me. It was the year that showed me that I was at the forefront of the world and I will try not to fall from it – he believes. In March, the polygonist won the silver medal at the HMŚ in Belgrade. The Pole also won silver at the European Championships. It was not far from the next disc – Sułek finished fourth at the World Championships.
– I realized that the impossible does not exist for me and that I can achieve the good results that I have always dreamed of. I hope that was just a taste of my senior career. Tonight is very nice and I think it will be special for everyone – said Sułek. Bydgoszczanka also received accolades in the region’s Player of the Year category. In both categories, his trainer, Marek Rzepka, was also awarded.
The best among the men from Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship was Adrian Brzeziński, who won a bronze medal at the European Championships this year with a 4x100m relay. Chodziarka Katarzyna Zdziebło was hailed as the discovery of the year. This year, the competitor won two silver medals at the World Championships at distances of 20 and 35 km, and in addition she finished second at the European Championships in the first of them. Kinga Gacka received the title of discovery of the year in the region. The Sprinter won silver at the European Championships and bronze at HMŚ with the 4×400 m relay.
In the surprise category of the year, Anna Kiełbasińska won, who had three reasons to celebrate the European Championships of the season that ended.
– two silver medals in the 4×100 and 4×400 m relays and an individual bronze in the 400 m – This evening is a record for the season, work and commitment. For me, this is the moment and the end of my career, but of course I still have plans for next season, where I want to fight for more trophies – announces the runner.
The honorary laureate was awarded to Witold Baran, who died in 2020. In 1962 in Belgrade, a specialist in medium races, he took second place at the European Championships in the 1500 m. This year, the gold laurel goes to two athletes, who for years have had the red-faced fans following the middle distance races as far as they can. important international events. Marcin Lewandowski and Adam Kszczot, whose paths on the treadmill have crossed many times, ended their careers the same year.
