The end of the battle for the UNESCO logotype on road signs

The regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of October 14, 2022 introduces an important provision which will not only be appreciated by caravanning enthusiasts. This can be an additional promotion, for example of campsites, since the legislator has authorized the placement of the UNESCO World Heritage symbol by road managers on roads leading to unique tourist attractions.

The regulation “On the detailed technical conditions of road signs as well as road safety devices and the conditions for their placement on the roads” (article 2377237) is the end of the battle for the special marking of places important for the promotion of the tourism. It should be recalled that already in May 2021, the parliamentary team for UNESCO World Heritage filed an interpellation (Interpellation No. 22339) concerning the modification of the law allowing the marking of World Heritage sites with the UNESCO logo. on traffic signs. Raison? In many places on national roads you can find plates with UNESCO symbols, although this is not provided for in … the regulations.

The initiative was supposed to sanction such an eventuality, which finally materialized. The regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of October 14, 2022 will enter into force on December 5 of this year.

From December 5, follow the World Heritage sign

From that day on, road managers will be able to place the UNESCO World Heritage logotype, provided the attraction is on the list. Changes in the possibility of placing a message on the sign indicating the inscription of the object on the UNESCO World Heritage List apply to the following signs:

• E-9 “sign to the museum”,

• E-10 “panel indicating the cultural heritage site”

• E-11 “sign to the monument of nature”,

• E-22b “object on the route of passenger cars”,

• E-22c “information on tourist facilities”.

If the object is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, it is allowed to place the UNESCO World Heritage symbol on the sign next to the tourist object symbol (right).

It is a very lucrative group, since the famous list of unique objects includes 1052 places in 165 countries, and currently there are 28 of them in Poland (the photo shows the basement of the historic salt mine in Wieliczka, which is listed on UNESCO’s list of prestigious treasures of humanity).
