Where can we find the happiest people? According to the latest UN report in Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries. Poland was placed in the middle of the pack between Belarus and Malaysia.

Poland has been ranked 60th on the United Nations list of the happiest countries in the world.

The newly published report analyses not only the level of prosperity in 158 countries (GDP per capita), but also the quality of social services, life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, the generosity of the inhabitants of a given country and the extent of corruption.

After summing up all this, the World Happiness Index was compiled, the undisputed leaders of which turned out to be the Scandinavian countries: the top ten included Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden. Only Switzerland, which took first place, surpassed them:

In addition to these countries, the top ten also included the Netherlands and three countries from outside the European continent: Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

How does the report assess the level of prosperity and happiness in Poland? According to this comprehensive ranking, we rank 60th between Belarus and Malaysia. Our neighbors did much better than us: the Czech Republic (31st), Slovakia (45th), Lithuania (56th).

However, we have overtaken Estonia (73) and Latvia (89), but also Portugal (88), crisis-ridden Greece (102) and Hungary (104):

At the bottom of the list was war-torn Syria, but it was only slightly outpaced by African countries such as Burundi, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Rwanda and Togo, as well as Afghanistan.

A few months before the publication of the UN report, we also became aware of the latest version World Happiness Index (Happy Planet Index), measured since 2006.

It takes into account not only the wealth of citizens of a given country, but also their well-being, life expectancy and ecological footprint, that is, the impact of a given country’s economy on the natural environment. Here’s what the ranking looks like after transfer to the world map:

It turns out to be the greenest and therefore happiest region in the world. Latin America. But that’s not the worst either. Europeor at least its central-western and northern parts:

The eastern regions of the Old Continent are in a worse situation, in particular Russia And Baltic countries. But it’s also hard to find happy people, according to the list’s authors. Bulgaria, Macedonia and – somewhat unexpectedly – ​​​​​​v Portugal. A high position can be a similar surprise. MoldovaThey were not ranked higher than her in Europe. Norway (1st in Europe, but only 29th in the world) and Swiss (34.).

Compared to other countries on the continent and in the world, Poland turns out to be average. In the latest World Happiness Index ranking, we were ranked 71st, which is only slightly worse than Canada, Netherlands If Finlandbut better than Ireland, Greeceand even IcelandWe have moved up 40 places compared to the first ranking in 2006.

On the map of South America, it is difficult to find the countries ranked in the lower parts of the ranking. They are only relatively unfavorable Uruguay (93rd place, just next to the Czech Republic and Egypt) and Bolivia (still a few points more than Poland – 65th).

However, they were in the top ten of the entire world rankings. Colombia (3.) and Venezuela (9.).

It is the most “unhappy” continent Africa. Here, in turn, you can count the green islands on the fingers of one hand:

The countries of the black continent are generally at the bottom of the world ranking. And since its preparation, some of them have had to face the Ebola epidemic or internal conflicts.

They turn out to be the only exceptions to this sad rule. Algeria (26th place, higher than, among others, New Zealand), Tunisia (39th place), Morocco (42nd, just behind the United Kingdom) and Madagascar (49th, between Austria and France).

Here he achieved an impressive result. Vietnamtaking second place in the world rankings. Also ranked very highly Indonesia (11.), Israel (15th), and just behind him was – another surprise – Pakistan.

China (60.) performed worse than their main competitors on the continent – India (32.) and Japan (45th) – but much better than the other world powers. None of them made it into the top 100 UNITED STATES (105.), nor Russia (122.).
