the impact on the mental health of Ukrainians is devastating

Every year, October 10 is World Mental Health Day.

“It is estimated that around 1 in 5 people living in conflict-affected areas around the world have mental health problems. The situation in Ukraine is no exception,” the researchers wrote in an article published on Euronews.

According to their forecasts, about 22%. the population currently living in Ukraine is likely to suffer from mental health problems in one way or another over the next 10 years.

According to the researchers, people living in relatively safer parts of the country also experience anxiety or sadness, trouble sleeping, fatigue, anger, and hard-to-explain somatic symptoms. However, “in the context of the ongoing war, the Ukrainian population has so far shown a high level of immunity,” Kluge and Habicht said. The Ukrainian government quickly extended its mental health support to citizens at the national and local levels, according to the researchers.

According to WHO representatives, one of the few positive news coming out of Ukraine could be that the country has set an example of how countries can effectively address the mental health needs of the population. “The Ukrainian government and society know how important mental health is to individual and national recovery, including the well-being of future generations,” Kluge and Habicht concluded.
