The subject is still lingering. Menstruation is falsified in language, in advertisements, ignored in schools, in hospitals. It’s time to finally talk about the lack of access to modern hygiene products. And even on menstrual leave.
The schools are the worst – some of them look like 19th century horror. The Pink Box, a foundation that organizes free sanitary napkins and tampons, has regularly received messages like this for two years: “I am a school nurse. I have three primary schools under me. All schools are rural. In one of them I recently had a shock. A schoolgirl came to see me during her period because “her tetra diaper had leaked”. I need educational materials, brochures, leaflets, posters and above all hygiene products. Would it be possible to have a pink box like this in my schools? The foundation’s 2022 report also includes stories of how, in one of the dorms, boys chased used sanitary napkins into the communal restroom to flaunt with them and make fun of their friends.
