Monday Łódź Airport named after Władysław Reymont spoke of a unique machine that landed on the airport tarmac. It’s about the plane AN-124 Ruslan, which is currently the largest transport aircraft in the world. Its wingspan is 73 m and the length of the fuselage is 69 m.
“The purpose of this plane’s visit is confidential, as well as the flight route – we do not provide any information about this,” said Wioletta Gnacikowska, spokesperson for Łódź Airport, in an interview with tvn24.pl. This is the third visit of this machine to Łódź. Previously, the giant appeared twice at this airport in 2017.
The vehicle was carrying cargo that could not be photographed – reports the regional portal TVP3 Łódź. According to the station, this time there were probably three Mi-17 helicopters in the baggage hold. In December last year, Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa announced the signing of a contract for MRO services of Mi17 helicopters belonging to the air forces of one of the Central and East African countries. “The helicopters are maintained at Military Aviation Plant No. 1 in Łódź and most likely they were in the luggage compartment of the AN-124 Ruslan,” it reads.
Two years ago, the largest cargo plane was the AN-225 Mriya, but in the first days of the Russian attack on Ukraine, during the fighting at Kiev-Hostomel airport, the Mriya was destroy. Thus, the AN-124 Ruslan aircraft became the largest flying cargo aircraft in the world.
On Tuesday, the giant left Łódź airport. The moment of its takeoff was filmed. “This is probably the only recording of the takeoff of the AN-124 Ruslan aircraft today recorded with a drone,” we can read on the airport’s Facebook profile.
