The life of Częstochowa and the poviat A project for seniors “Living to be healthy and active” is about to start. We talked about it with Dr. Magdalena Myga-Nowak

On Saturday, November 12, the University Center for Continuing Education kicks off with free lectures and workshops in the field of mature skin care, healthy eating and first aid for people aged 60 and over as part of the project ” Live healthy and be active”. We talk about the courses with Dr. Magdalena Myga-Nowak, associate dean for student affairs and didactics at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Humanities. Jan Długosz in Częstochowa.

Paula Nogaj: What are the main assumptions of the project?

Magdalena Myga-Nowak: The project was prepared by the University Center for Continuing Education in agreement with the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Exact, Natural and Technical Sciences. His idea is to activate the elderly through learning, showing them how to take care of their health, but without looking at what is written on average websites or forums with advice. We want seniors to meet experts, our collaborators who are academic teachers, but also very good practitioners. The objective is to show them how, for example, to take care of their skin, how to properly prepare meals according to a precise pathological entity, but not only. Participants will be able to find out what is the best meal they can prepare for their grandson or daughter.

PN: What else can seniors learn?

M MN: First aid is a very important aspect that will be addressed during the project. Each of us is a great practitioner and we know how to do it, but in the moment of danger you can object, paralyze yourself to act. Therefore, we have planned activities related to the provision of first aid in case of home emergencies. We want to remind older people how they should handle a difficult situation – for example, cuts, fainting or choking.

PN: How will this project work in practice?

M MN: We will have four meeting blocks on Saturday. Each will start with a short lecture, but interactive in nature – based on a multimedia presentation, discussions and questions. Then we will move on to two different workshop classes in professional labs. Some of them will relate to skin care or hand details, others will be cooking. We will also teach seniors how to apply makeup properly to hide all the flaws that appear with age.

PN: So these courses will also have an impact on the self-esteem and well-being of seniors?

M MN: Yes, it’s a kind of preparation for a holistic approach to life, or rather pleasant aging – especially in a world where beauty is emphasized. Indeed, aesthetic care is one thing, but food is also important and our seniors will have the opportunity to consult a dietician.

PN: Can every senior apply to participate in the project?

MMN: Absolutely. We invite and encourage all seniors who have such a need and want to apply with us. Of course, we first broached this subject to our alumni at the University of the Third Age. However, we tell everyone about our project. All seniors from Częstochowa and surrounding areas are welcome.

PN: Thank you for the interview.
