DoRzeczy.pl: Is the decision of the Monetary Policy Council to maintain interest rates at the current level a good one?
Arthur Dziambor: You could say it’s good and bad. It’s good for borrowers who have already received such a kick from the Monetary Policy Council that they are thinking about what to do with themselves and how to repay their debts. This means that the MPC knows and has accepted the fact that there is a gigantic crisis and that further increases in interest rates, combined with bad decisions by the government to print money, do not work, so you can’t touch more on those rates, because it won’t matter. .
On the other hand, if the MPC and NBP do nothing, the crisis will worsen.
It will deepen anyway, because the political decisions of Law and Justice, with the support of almost all of the opposition – except the Confederation – consist in the fact that money must be printed to pour it on people and pretend to help. The RBA does not have the power and the decision-making power here in matters of acts. The MPC has judged, assessing the political situation, that it will be bad anyway, so there is no point in hurting the borrowers.
The head of the Foreign Ministry signed a diplomatic note to Germany on reparations. His German counterpart, however, said the matter was closed. Do you believe that the money will be obtained for the Second World War?
I don’t believe we can get anything. Of course, I think Germany should account for those moments, but from the start the deal was badly played. Repairs issues could be handled well or PiS style. Unfortunately, it went wrong. First there was a big scare at the press conferences, then the Germans were informed that we were doing something about this file, and yet our diplomacy should have worked on it for years, and our politicians in Parliament European should act. It was necessary to go to the Germans, to start a discussion on this subject much earlier, perhaps then there would be hope that the German authorities would approach the matter honestly and declare that something had to be done about the reparations. However, because they were informed by a press conference of the actions of the Poles, they say by normal human instinct that there is no discussion.
