Vadimir Putin announced the annexation of occupied territories in southern and eastern Ukraine. The pseudo-referendum on the annexation of Ukrainian lands to Russia began on September 23 in the occupied oblasts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia. The vote on this issue took place under duress from the electoral commission and the Russian army and continued until September 27.
The United States, the European Union and NATO have announced that they will never recognize Russia’s claims to these territories.
