Since yesterday, Poland has been present in the media around the world. Newspapers, television and portals showed an overturned tanker with liquid chocolate and competed with jokes, better or worse.
In recent months, Poland has appeared in the world’s media mainly in the context of issues related to liberal democracy, respect for the law and the independence of judges. The PiS government has complained about what it sees as undeserved bad press around the world. Today, our country is once again in the headlines of the world media, but in a slightly better context.
A truck that overturned near Słupca, Greater Poland, spilling puddles of liquid chocolate along the highway, is an image that no media, especially television, can miss. In the United States, the Polish “mild disaster” was broadcast on their websites by channels regardless of their political affiliation: from the liberal CNN to the conservative Fox News. The only victim of the accident was the driver of the car, who suffered a broken arm.
“This substance looks like spilled pus, but it’s something much sweeter” wrote a CNN journalist. On the other hand Fox News was paying attention rather, it was a matter of importing hot water to mitigate the effects of this mild disaster. The chocolate spread over a large area began to harden quickly.
Polish firefighter Bogdan Kowalski has become a global media star. – Hardening chocolate is much more difficult to remove than snow – this is his statement quoted by the American agency AP, followed by most media, including “USA Today” daily. The famous newspapers “The New York Times” published their materials on this topic The Washington Postand the New York daily included picturesque news from Poland in its morning briefing sent to hundreds of thousands of readers around the world.
In turn, the Californian “World News” website he stressed that “Poland is not a country of chocolate.”
The information from Poland was not only of interest to Americans. British “The Independent” he began his report with these words: “It has been a long time since police officers had the opportunity to smile at the scene of an accident. He further pointed out that cars passing by the accident site spread the spilled chocolate for several kilometers.
Catalan “La Vanguardia” she called the accident a “sweet disaster” (sweet of disaster) and also insisted that the rescue operation required hectoliters of hot water. The French and German press made graphic comparisons and jokes. “The Parisian” he wrote about a river of chocolate on a Polish highway. German “Der Tagespiegel” in photos from Poland he saw a brown wave and a giant chocolate bar. In turn, “Stern” he wrung his hands over the plight of treat lovers who lost 12 tonnes of their treats following the accident.
On this occasion, one of the newspapers recalled the famous story of a Polish cow which fled towards the bison. For a moment, you might feel like you’re living in a quiet, boring country, covered by the world’s media because of an overturned chocolate tanker or a runaway cow. .
