The Lev Yashin award has been given since 2019 to the best goalkeeper of the season and was created in memory of the excellent Russian goalkeeper considered the best goalkeeper in the history of football. To date, he is the only player playing in this position to win the Ballon d’Or. He did it in 1963.

When the award was first presented three years ago, it went to Liverpool’s Alisson Becker. In 2020, the plebiscite was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and last year it triumphed Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The choice of the best goalkeeper of the last season was made by journalists from all over Europe. The winner is the Belgian Thibaut Courtois. In the top 10, except the goalkeeper real Madrid there were also: Alisson Becker (Liverpool), Yassine Bounou (Sevilla), Ederson (Manchester City), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Mike Maignan (Milan), Edouard Mendy (Chelsea), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Jan Oblak (Atlético Madrid) and Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt).

For Thibaut Courtois, it is another individual reward in his career. In May, he was named Finals MVP Champions League. Four years ago, he was the best goalkeeper at the World Cup in Russia, as well as the best goalkeeper of the year according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics. In the 2013/14 season, he also became the best goalkeeper in the Spanish league.
