Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took part in the voting for the “Photos of the Year 2022” competition organized by Anadolu Agency, choosing a photo of the Atlas Lions taken during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The competition involves a series of photos taken by AA photojournalists and correspondents illustrating the year’s major events impacting Turkish and world news, which are divided into three categories: “news”, “sports” and “environment and life” . .

In the sports category, the Turkish president voted for Salih Zeki Fazlioglu’s photo titled “Sajdah of Shukr”. In this photo, the Atlas Lions bow in gratitude after knocking out Spain in a penalty shootout to clinch their historic qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his support for the Moroccan team during the tournament. He had congratulated her on her historic qualification for the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar against Portugal. “I congratulate from the bottom of my heart the Moroccan national team, the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.
