Twitter launches podcasts – Computerworld

Twitter has officially announced that it has made the decision to roll out podcasts to its service, integrating it with a completely revamped Spaces tab. The renewed Spaces tab and podcasting option was made available this week for English speaking groups around the world with iOS and Android devices.

Today’s announcement should come as no surprise, as the social network has been testing this option for a few months. Twitter was working on a dedicated podcast tab at the time, but eventually discovered it opted to add this option to an existing engine called Spaces.

The new solution uses custom cards called “Stations” that aggregate content based on a variety of topics such as news, music and sports. Twitter users access it live and can also find the most popular podcasts from around the world. They can then click their thumbs up or down indicating whether the podcast interests them.

After opening the Spaces tab, the user sees three sections. At the top of the tab, there will be stations that represent different themes and topics to listen to. You can see a list below that features some of the best selected audio content and at the very bottom is a list of upcoming audio content.

There are many indications that Twitter will decide to introduce podcasts in the near future also on devices running other operating systems than Android and iOS. Interestingly, Twitter’s entry into the world of podcasting comes when Meta gave it up just a year after it was enabled. Analysts believe that Twitter’s entry into the audio format could give it an edge over other social networks, provided it can scale this option effectively.
