Soon, when summer arrives and pandemic-related restrictions around the world are lifted, we will be able to swim in rivers, lakes, seas and oceans ourselves. However, you don’t have to wait for holidays or vacations to enjoy the extraordinary views and move your imagination to distant and exotic lands.

The international Underwater Photographer of the Year (UPY) competition was held in London. In the 2022 edition, photographers from 71 countries competed, submitting a total of over 4,200 unique photos from around the world.

The Underwater Photographer of the Year competition has been held in Britain since 1965. The aim is to promote underwater photography and show the world the best photos taken in seas, lakes, rivers and even swimming pools of the whole world. Photographers compete in 13 thematic categories, such as “Behaviors”, “Shipwrecks”, “Wide Angle Photography” or “Macro Photo”. The jury for this year’s competition was made up of experienced underwater photographers Peter Rowlands, Tobias Friedrich and Alexander Mustard.
