The Moroccan Forum of Young Journalists organized this Thursday, January 5, in collaboration with the doctoral training in journalism and modern media of the Ibn Tofail University, a symposium on the theme “Media support for the Moroccan performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar: result and intonation prospects “.
The symposium saw the presence of leading figures in sports journalism, in particular the researcher in sports policy, Moncef El Yazghi, the head of the sports department of the SNRT, Rachid Jami, who analyzed the various aspects of media support for the historical course of Lions such as the basics of journalistic work at international events, the media presence during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the axis of public media and monitoring of Moroccan performance during this international event.
Indeed, Moroccans experienced an exceptional atmosphere at the World Cup hosted in Qatar in November and December 2022, following the participation and historic achievement of the national team by reaching the semifinals of the global competition, to become the first Arab and African team to reach this stage of the competition.
However, this type of event often leads to a significant increase in demand for media attention, noting that the total number of fans of the Qatar World Cup reached about 1 billion viewers during the group stage alone, in addition to an estimated average of 70 million viewers per match.
“It was an exceptional Cup for us Moroccan journalists”, confirmed Hiba Chakir, journalist at MarocHebdo and member of the FMJJ Hespress UK that they have experienced high demand from “of the general Moroccan public, but also Arab and worldwide“pertaining to various information whatsoever”about the Atlas Lions or about Morocco”.
Chakir explained that this event had the participation and presence of more than 60 journalists on the spot and was marked “by great professionalism and great mastery on the part of the latter”. However, it was found that a few journalists published a series of “slides” and ” were not really at the level to represent Morocco”.
In this sense, ” the FMJJ decided to organize this symposium to take stock of the media coverage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and to invite several journalists and researchers to talk about their experiences on the ground, but also to talk about the challenges they face faced and the different ways to raise the level of our media body to be there at the next World Cup“, underlined the journalist.
That being said, the media is also mobilizing to cover this event while devoting significant material and human resources to it, especially journalists, commentators and correspondents responsible for covering the event on the spot at all times. from the broadcast room or from the pages to keep up with the news of the biggest sporting event in the world.
” We were there for almost the entire World Cup, as the Moroccan national team played as many matches as the winner, Argentinasaid Ahmed Talal, the publishing director of the media le7TV and who was present on the ground during the game.
This Cup organized in Qatar “ was among the best existing sports leagues in all sports, especially football, as Qatar fulfilled all possible conditions, including for journalistic work. There were two media centers that met all standards for professional work and transportation was available for all journalists presentTalal noted.
Although the Moroccan sports media has a series of experiences covering major sporting events, such as the World Cup or the Olympic Games, these events constantly present new and diversified challenges, requiring good preparation and access to various data, figures and statistics. and diligence in researching unique and different topics not available to all people.
