World Health Day: a sports walk in honor

Mankind celebrates this event every year on April 8. In Congo, the Ministry of Health and Population, that of Sports and Physical Education, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), organized an 8 km route, going from the Alphonse-Massamba-Débat stadium to the Prime Minister’s office.

Prime Minister Clément Mouamba kicked off. Several members of the government and walkers from all over Brazzaville responded. No time or medals to reward the first. The advantage of walking is mainly its importance for health. “Physical activity such as walking helps prevent non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer”explained the Minister of Health and Population, Jacqueline Lydia Mikolo.

The day was celebrated with the theme “Universal Healthcare Coverage: For Everyone, Everywhere”. In this context, Jacqueline Lydia Mikolo indicated that healthcare starts, among other things, with prevention, in which sport is an important factor. She also indicated that the government has taken steps to achieve this reporting with the support of traditional partners such as the WHO, represented in Congo by Fatoumata Binta Diallo.

Let us not forget that the WHO celebrated its seventieth anniversary on April 7 this year. This health sports walk seemed to be an extension of the celebration of the UN agency’s birthday. The Prime Minister expressed Congo’s gratitude to the WHO and encouraged the walkers who he said understood the importance of participating in sports, especially walking, which does not require great physical effort, to maintain health.
