Jarosław Kaczyński’s words about the causes of low fertility in Poland were widely covered by the media. – I am not in favor of very early motherhood, because a woman must also mature to be a good mother, but how at 25 gives in the neck, well … – the PiS chairman laughed during the meeting with the residents of Ełk. The statement was criticized by opposition politicians and celebrities, including Anna Lewandowska. The trainer disagreed with the “unfair accusation of women” and ignoring the real causes of low births. Ełk’s words were also picked up by foreign media. The cable on the remarks of the leader of the PiS was prepared by the American agency Associated Press.

“Opposition politicians, activists and celebrities have accused 73-year-old bachelor Jarosław Kaczyński of detachment from reality. They also argue that Kaczyński, Poland’s most powerful politician since 2015, is himself partly responsible for the low birth rate of Central Europe’s 38 million inhabitants”. The author drew attention to the criticisms of the PiS, which combine the low number of births, eg with the restrictive law on abortion in Poland. Euronews showed in its article a graph showing the average number of births in Poland since 2010 and comparing it to the EU average. In 2020, the average number of births per woman was 1.39 in Poland and 1.5 in the EU.

An article dedicated to the controversial statement was also published by the French agency AFP. “Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the ruling party, criticized by the opposition for ‘senseless’ remarks, writes the Guardian portal. Sky News noted that The head of the PiS defended his remarks.

The French BFMTV also wrote about the link between low fertility and alcoholism among young women. He posted a tweet from KO’s Barbara Nowacka on the portal, who wrote that “Kaczyński doesn’t know anything about women”.
