According to the regulations, each candidate is a “completely new car” or “a car with significant and profound changes”, as their manufacturers have assured.
It is important to note that cars participating in the main competition for the title of “World Car of the Year 2014” must be entered in open competition. sales no later than December 31, 2013 on at least one continent, and on at least two no later than May 31, 2014.
There is one change introduced in the current edition of the Competition: the “World Performance Car of the Year” category has been modified. Its place was taken by the category “World Luxury Car of the Year”. It now includes luxury, unique, prestige and sports vehicles as well as super sports versions of existing cars. The production of each candidate for this title must be at least 500 pieces per year. They must be available for sale before May 31, 2014.
The requirements for the other two categories have also been clarified. Cars competing for the title of “World Green Car” can be cars that have just entered mass production or pre-production cars.
All are automatically candidates for the title of “World Car Design of the Year”. cars in competition in the main Competition and the candidates presented by the College of Stylist Experts.
The results of the plebiscite will be announced on April 17, 2014, at the New York auto show.
The Polish juror of the competition is Maciej Pertyński.
