The dismissal of Jacek Kurski from the position of president of public television was a big surprise for everyone. The former MP fulfilled this role for 5 years. During this time he started many new businesses, e.g. production of the historical telenovela “The Crown of Kings” and the series “Młody Piłsudski”. He also made many personnel changes.

Kurski has been associated with the media since the 1990s. He began by publishing articles in the independent and right-wing press, notably in “Tygodnik Solidarność” and “Tygodnik Gdański”. He was also an associate of the DPA agency and correspondent in Gdańsk for the BBC. He joined Telewizja Polska in 1991. He co-created journalistic programs such as “Lewiatan”, “Sprawa dla reportera” or “Refleks”.
At the same time, Kurski tried his hand at politics. In the early 1990s, he collaborated with Center Accord. In the years 1998-2001 he was Deputy Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. His first significant political success was election to the Sejm of the 5th term in the parliamentary elections of 2005. In the years 2009-2014, Kurski served as a member of the European Parliament. For a year, he also served as Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

Not everyone knows that Jacek Kurski’s upbringing has nothing to do with media and politics. The citizen of Gdańsk was educated in a completely different direction. After graduating from III Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Bohaterów Westerplatte in Gdańsk, he began studying at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk, specializing in foreign trade. He got a master’s degree.
After being removed from his post as president of TVP, Jacek Kurski became the new representative of Poland on the board of directors of the World Bank. After taking on the new role in December last year, Kurski himself admitted that this time he took a job that matched his training and experience as a manager.
I confirm: I took a position corresponding to my training and my managerial experience as Deputy Executive Director at the World Bank, aware that this implies resigning from certain public activities or political ambitions. I always thought there was no life outside of politics. Well it is. I know I will be useful here too – Jacek Kurski wrote on Twitter in December.
Kurski’s skills for the job in The Board of Directors of the World Bank has also been confirmed by the National Bank of Poland. In the NBP statement published in December, it was pointed out that Jacek Kurski is an economist by training who graduated from the University of Gdańsk in foreign trade.
