The ski jumper admitted in an interview with TVP Sport that he was struggling with a fitness crisis
Kamil Stoch only took 20th place in the last competition of the ski jumping World Cup season. After the competition, the jumper decided to give an interview to TVP Sport, in which he admitted that he was currently going through a crisis in form. He revealed that the departure to Planica was like a nightmare for him.
Kamil Stoch clearly summed up his poor performance
The last ski jumping World Cup competition of the 2020/2021 season took place on Sunday morning. First there was a team competition, which could not be played on Saturday. The Germans won, and the Poles took only sixth place.
Next, an individual competition took place, with results in several categories.
The winner was the German Karl Geiger who, thanks to his victory today, won the Planica 7 tournament as well as a small crystal globe for ski flying. Unfortunately, our jumpers had less reason to be satisfied.
The Poles did not play any significant role in the last competition of the season. None of the Whites and Reds managed to finish in the top ten. The best placed was Piotr Żyła, who took 13th place.
Fans might have been concerned that Kamil Stoch was behaving exceptionally poorly. The ski jumper from Ząb took twentieth place, which allowed him to maintain his place on the World Cup podium. However, it was obvious that jumping was difficult for him, and this was summed up perfectly by the competitor himself who, after jumping 206.5m in the second set, wrung his hands in resignation.
“It was a nightmare and a tragedy.” Stoch is honest about his form at Planica
After the competition, Kamil Stoch stood in front of the cameras and decided to explain to the fans why his jumps had been so bad in recent days. The jumper admitted to having problems with several elements. Stoch summed up his performances in Planica with very bitter words.
–
I’d say the jumps were okay, but I wanted something more. Unfortunately, this stay here was a nightmare and a tragedy that I would never have dreamed of in the worst case scenario. There is no energy at the threshold, no good approach position. I don’t want to go into it, I want to forget it. Unfortunately, my heart is bleeding and I am leaving here with great regret and disgust.
– he said in an interview with TVP Sport.
–
For me it was a big waste. Now I want to rest and take many more good flights. The whole season went well. There were a lot of great moments, but also a lot of difficult situations. In the end, it was a plus
– added Stoch, visibly resigned.
Despite lower jumps at the end of the season, Kamil Stoch can consider the 2020/2021 campaign a success. He won the four-hill tournament and finished the World Cup in third place. This allowed him to beat the record of Adam Małysz, who stood on the World Cup podium five times. Stoch did it for the sixth time. It should be added, however, that the “Eagle of Wisła” has won the Crystal Ball four times, while Stoch currently has only two such trophies in his collection.
