Icon of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world. According to information provided by the press service of Royal Caribbean International, the company responsible for its construction, the ship sailed in open water for the first time. The communication indicated that the tests were successful. What exactly was it about?
The tests, which lasted four days, verified the technologies found on Icon of the Seas. This has been studied, among other things:
- main engines
- shell
- braking system
- Steering system
- noise and vibration levels
Another water test is planned this year. For now, it will be docked at the shipyard in Finland, where it was under construction.
According to information provided by TVN24, the world’s largest cruise ship is expected to embark on its first official cruise in January 2024 from Miami. He is expected to make regular seven-day voyages around the Caribbean.
If all goes as planned, Icon of the Seas will be the largest cruise ship in the world. Thus, it will outperform the current leader – Wonder of the Seas.
This boat measures exactly 365 meters long. You should know that the Titanic was almost 100 meters shorter. Its weight is 250.8 thousand tons. This data can make a huge impression. Up to 18 of the 20 decks will be accessible to passengers.

A trip on the world’s largest cruise ship will be very expensive. Prices for such a cruise will start from $1,737 per person (approximately 7,016 PLN). 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members will be able to board at the same time.
